Retinal Schisis treatment in Bonita Springs FL

Retinal Schisis

Retinal schisis is a splitting of the layers of the retina.

Cause

Retinal schisis may be acquired with aging, or may be found in school age children as a congenital condition.

Symptoms

Retinal schisis that is acquired rarely has noticeable symptoms.  Symptoms may be a very mild decrease in peripheral vision. Children diagnosed with the disorder may have noticeable decreased vision.

Diagnosis

This disorder is most commonly diagnosed by a retinal surgeon during a dilated eye exam.

Treatment

There is no recommended treatment for retinal schisis unless the area is progressively getting larger, in which case laser may be applied to the affected area to prevent further vision impact.

Prevention

There are no known measures to prevent retinal schisis.
